ArcGIS Desktop

ArcGIS Desktop is a professional GIS tool for information system design and management. ArcGIS Deskto is represented by three software products, each providing a different level of functionality.

ArcView

General tools for data creation, cartographic outputs (maps), data usage and analysis, tools for basic spatil data edit/processing.

ArcEditor

The same as ArcView plus functions for definition, administration, editing, and compilation of geodatabase.

ArcInfo

The same as ArcEditor plus advanced tools for spatial data processing and ArcInfo Workstation application.

ArcMap

Central application ArcGIS Desktop, cartography, spatial analysis, data editing

ArcCatalog

Viewing/searching of geographic data, recording, viewing, and management of metadata, definitions, export, and import of schematics/geodatabase designs, searching of spatial data within LAN/Internet

ArcToolbox

Spatial data management/conversion, vector analysis, geo-coding, statistic analysis, coverage format processing (ArcInfo version).

ModelBuilder

Graphic modeling environment, designa nd implemenetation of spatial data processing models, tool for sharing methods and procedures among users.

ArcGIS Desktop can be extended with programs for advanced raster modeling, 3D modeling, geodetics calculations, surface modeling, grid element vectorization and so on.
